Beijing Opera Mask Making
LianPu, is the style of makeup worn by actors in traditional Chinese Opera. Each of the main characters - the protagonist, the heroine, the clown, and the boor - each have their own unique style of LianPu. Colors of the makeup also have a special, and sometimes surprising, significance. For instance, while black signifies a serious disposition and sharp wit, white makeup deceit and treachery. Red signifies courage, honesty, and steadfast loyalty. So LianPu can teach us a lot about traditional Chinese culture.
