Knot Making
Hosted by: That's Mandarin
When
Those intricate and beautiful knots we see hanging from car mirrors, in doorways and windows and on clothing or bags date back many thousands of. They are often used as a good luck charm and convey different messages and wishes. Chinese knots are often surrounding the Chinese character 福fú which extends a wish of blessings, protection and prosperity. The double butterfly knot wishes for a long life of togetherness and happiness for a married couple. A fish-shaped Chinese knot is to wish the carrier to be affluent year after year. A 如意rúyì (literally meaning “as one wishes”) knot is carried in the hope that everything will go as they hope.
