Come down to Culture Yard every Tuesday for our China Through Cinema series of movies! The film will be shown in Chinese with English subtitles on a large projector screen with free popcorn and soft drinks for a real cinema feel! This Week: «Still Life» «韩三平» 贾樟柯 Jia Zhangke, 2006 Shot in the old village of Fengjie, a small town on the Yangtze River which is slowly being destroyed by the building of the Three Gorges Dam, Still Life tells the story of two people in search of their spouses. The film would see Jia's status both at home and abroad raised when it won the coveted Golden Lion in the 2006 Venice Film Festival and was shown uncensored all over China. When? Every week a new Chinese film will be shown with English subtitles, so come and enjoy new and old Chinese cinema in a gorgeous and cosy hutong courtyard setting! ************************************************************ 1月25日 《三峡好人》 影片的英文名被翻译成“静物”,三峡在变化,房子街道被淹没在水底,人们离开了旧居,四散到中国的各个地方,旧的生活被改变了,但新的生活还要继续。那些尚未清除的废墟、新居里的摆设、看旅店的老人,都已经从最初的纷乱里安静了下来,在三峡的阳光里透出了生活的气息,影片正是通过四处走动的韩三明的眼睛,表达出这样一种意味。《东》虽然直接记录了主人公的语言,但这样直接表述的感染力是有限的,而在《三峡好人》里,主人公没有向观众刻意说教,而是通过镜头语言展现内心,用韩三明的眼睛看三峡的人们面对新生活的自我调适,这个江湖风平浪静。
