    Something like that, yeah. Last week's tropical storm damaged a dike near a chemical plant in Dalian - residents are worried that floodwaters will damage the plant and cause a toxic chemical spill.

    The plant has large stores of paraxylene (PX), as you mentioned - a carcinogenic compound used to manufacture polyester. The protestors are asking for authorities to relocate the plant.

    Yeah, they do have little baby protests across China pretty frequently, but not like this. At least, not to my knowledge.

    They've got over 12,000 people protesting in Dalian right now - earlier today, they were throwing bottles at police and disrupting traffic on one of the city's main arteries.

    Plus it's Dalian, not some tiny farming village...kinda a big deal.
