Yeah, it's a good new direction for Hell City that distinguishes them from their counterparts.
I'd always found them to be a bit of a wash before, and forgot what they sounded like when they were known as Gang Bang Sex Abuse.
Soju Legion are brutal. They added a new vocalist back in December and are probably the closest thing to GBH or Discharge that we have here in the capital city.
If you're interested, here's the review I wrote for the Gum Bleed record last fall: Gum Bleed
, Balefire Juvenile
We're excited about the release of local punk act Gum Bleed's long-awaited debut LP,
, which dropped earlier this fall on Proletopia Records. In addition to standard live set micro bursts of aggressive street punk ("Fuck Off the Mammonism," "Don't Forget the Class Struggle") the 11-song LP drifts admirably away from
the genre's standard template of verse-chorus-verse territory, resulting in the one of the most progressive local records we've heard this year.
Delving into Celtic punk, extreme metal and even goth, highlights include "Let Go," a collaboration with German Celtic punk act Mr. Irish Bastard; their take on the traditional American folk anthem "Red River Valley," featuring both clarinets and the mandolin,
and "Utopia Song," a seven-minute experimental monster in the vein Between the Buried and Me and Venom. You can listen to and buy it here.
