BEIJING, JULY 26 -- If you're into hip hop, you're probably already familiar with DJ Wordy, the 3 x China DMC Champion and purveyor of all things quality hip hop here in the capital city.

He dropped a new mixtape this weekend, Hard to Follow. It's his ninth and most engaging to date -- a 39-minute amalgamation of dubstep, bass and experimental sounds.

Check it out, and listen to what he had to say about it below.

Dj Wordy - hard to follow by Dj Wordy

So tell us about this new mix.

It's dubstep, bass music and experimental -- not like the dance or pure hip hop that I did before.

It sounds good.

This is the music I really listen to nowadays -- I'm really into it, so I did a mixtape. I also want more people hear it because I think it`s a new sound.

No one in Beijing has done this before?

I don't think Beijing people know about this kind of music -- that`s why I'm introducing it. A DJ's job is to bring new music -- not play the same shit all the time.

What makes a DJ good?

Passion about music and a lot -- a lot -- of practice.

Have you ever thought about remixing music from Beijing rock bands?

I'm always searching for good Chinese music, but I can't find it. Maybe I haven't listened to so much.

Which artists have you been listening to recently?

Joker, the new Skream album, Banga, Flying Lotus...

These are the guys who influenced this new mix? Because, man, this is really good. Take us through the process of composing a new mix.

I choose the music that I want to use, make it sound good and put those tracks together.

What kind of software do you use?

Serato for DJing and Ableton Live and Logic 8 for production.

How long did it take you to produce this mix? Anything special that you encountered in the process?

It took about a month. The difficulty is how to put the tracks together and make those tracks sound really good

How many tracks did you include in this new tape?

About 30 tracks. Some of them aren't released yet.

So, how would you describe Beijing's electronic music scene in a few words?

Minimal techno artists are all in the same category -- it's always the same people doing the same thing. And then a few drum n' bass guys. I'm just doing little bit of everything -- just play good music that can make people dance.

Cool. Where we dance to this mix?

This one is more for listening: you can listen to it by yourself or when you're driving, because not everyone can dig this kind of music. Lots of people think it is noise.

Nah, it's so smooooth. When's the next Hot Pot event?

This Friday. I'm gonna play everything and smash the party like every time. I'm going to New York for two months after this, so don't miss it.

Hot Pot #29, Fri, July 30 at PUNK.
