DJ Qbert: Pioneering American turntablist spent the early-1990s racking up a slew of awards (including DMC World Champion in '92 with Mix Master Mike and Apollo, among others), scratching alongside his Invisibl Skratch Piklz crew and wowing the world with his unique technique. Since then, he's gone on to releasing countless records, developing the QFO, an all-in-one scratching instrument, and devising his own music annotation system for the turntables. Often cited as one of the world's most influential DJs, the 40-year-old shows no sign of slowing down.

Second Hand Rose: For those unfamiliar with these living legends, they've spent the past decade making waves in both China and abroad with their synthesis of traditional Chinese elements with straight-up rock and roll. The wacky antics of cross-dressing frontman Liang Long and frequent lineup changes are worth noting, as well. Their most recent EP, Love Child, was released this past summer.

Abigail Washburn: She's a banjo-strumming humanitarian who sings in Mandarin, blending the rich sonic legacy of America's Appalachia region with traditional Chinese instrumentation. What's not to love? Returning for the seventh time since 2004, the internationally-acclaimed songstress arrives with multi-instrumentalist Kai Welch and a gaggle of guest musicians in tow. Her most recent release, the benefit record Afterquake, (with Dave Liang) melds folk and electronic elements with samples from post-earthquake Sichuan, resulting in a cathartic piece of work that isn't easily forgotten.

Shan Ren: Gig #2 of the week for the Mountain Men. Ma Tiao and Chuan Zi, a man whose dog accompanies him on vocals, will also perform. If you haven't seen their version of the Righteous Brothers' "Unchained Melody" yet, do so tonight, for it is truly a spectacle to behold.

THE COUCHSURFERS: While not live music, we still think this is cool. (And since it's Monday, what else is there to do?)
