Children of Bodom: Finnish quintet has blazed through a number of sub-genres in metal canon during their two decade career, including death, melodic death, power metal and thrash. This may puzzle the uninitiated, but for members of the metal community, this experimentation is serious business. They land in Beijing in support of last month's cover record Skeletons in the Closet. Expect to hear thrashy renditions of Suicidal Tendencies, the Ramones, Slayer and Creedence Clearwater Revival.

MIDI HEROES: While the once-mighty Midi Music Festival has been downgraded from Haidian Park blasts drawing thousands of metal fans to one-off insular events in far-flung locales, the Midi spirit lives on - sort of. Heavyweights Miserable Faith, XTX, Yaksa, the Verse, Muma & Third Party, Brain Failure, SUBS, aggro-metal act AK-47 and pop punks Reflector (pictured above) gather at 798 Art District for the festival's ten-year anniversary party, including performances and the incestuous Midi Rock Music Awards.

Tonight's events include an LGBT party with the Gayographic crew (and half-naked men) at the revamped Martini Bar, as well as a Retro & Funky Party in the MAINROOM.

Yuyu's Mars Party: Release party for the modern rock act's debut EP. 天堂, Limo, Sky, Little Wing, Catnip and Huangshueng (the MC of 在北京 fame) will support.

Arch Enemy: What's the deal with the flood of aging European metal acts flooding the country this year? Expect classic thrash from this female-fronted quintet.

Subway to Sally: Earthy German collective ventures outside of their comfort zone to share their medieval-influenced folk rock with Beijing audiences. Riding high with the recent release of their ninth effort Kreuzfeuer, their sound also incorporates elements of classical, Goth and even traditional Asian instrumentation.
