A talk with a friend few days ago inspired us to come up with this question - well you might have been asked something similar before, but I'm kinda interested in the answers i might get from here.

Suppose you're a Scientist / an Artist, would you rather

    1) be celebrated when you're alive and prove to be wrong / depreciated or forgotten after you die

    or

    2) be criticised/unnoticed while you're alive but prove to be right/ appreciated after your life

    Which would you choose?

Depends on what kind of life I get to lead and what kind of lives my decendents get to lead as a result of the choice.
Essentially I would choose whichever brings the greatest combined monetary wealth to my offspring and spiritual wealth to humanity.

I would like to write a beautiful novel. One day, after I'm long dead and gone a pretty young student will find my book in a dusty old bookstore. Sitting under a tree on a riverbank she will read my words and look off into the distance smiling and thinking about the person who wrote them.

If I am great enough, what the great means is there is possibility that I would achieve big in one field, I will keep working on hard to find what is most valuable thing in that field, and if I am pursuing hard enough, I think I will not care if I am admired or not when I am alive. On the other hand, i will take my pursuit more seriously, it means I would rather my job be admired eventually, no matter I am alive or not.
