Hey,
So I just finished up playing some modern warfare 3, and I thought I'd check the forums. I read a post about a Chinese girl complaining about her life. Now, I have lived in Changsha, and Beijing for 3 months, so I know a bit about China, but not a whole lot. Anyway, It's made me appreciate America a lot more. I've learned that much.
Anyway, whenever I speak to an American who complains about their life, it is always easy to point out to them ways and systems they can use to improve their life. I mean, anyone without a felony can get a pell grant and go to school online. They can then use that knowledge and degree to improve their wages, and with that, live their dream of going to Spain. The point is there is usually something they can do to better their life.
For Chinese though, it really doesn't seem to be the same. I mean, even with a College degree, you will not make much money in China. I had a girlfriend with a degree in English speaking. She only made like 2000 rmb a month if I remember. She worked 6 days a week, 12 hours a day. How on Earth will anyone be able to afford a plane ticket much less a Visa, and other things to travel or live out their dreams.
I stayed at a high school a couple months in LangFang outside of Beijing. We're talking 40 year old high school teachers living in a dorm together on campus. It's easy to say that the standards aren't like America, and neither is the opportunity for these lower-middle class Chinese. Do we as Americans just do our best to ignore this fact when we see these situations in China, or is there something we can say? What advice is there to give someone who wants to live their dream, or improve their life, but has a college degree, and can barely afford a place with a stand up shower or a washing machine.
I really enjoy China, and Chinese culture. Their food is amazing, girls are pretty, and country is beautiful. I plan to go back in 6 months to SCNU in Guangzhao. I'm not saying I dislike China, and I'm not trying to disrespect China, but how do you guys respond to this? Thoughts?
