A person who think it's a smart idea to film a crime needs to be shot right away, to avoid further idiot off-springs. I'm going off the point.

Kudos to the kid who gets beaten up pretty good, and still manages to stand up for himself. The goons who were involved in the beatings I'm sure will get a few hours of community service and will be able to live their merry lives soon after. I think the best way to punish these kids is to have their names and faces on local newspapers for incidents such as this, publicly humiliate them. Make others think twice, before they even consider such a crime.

If anyone can post a video of this incident on a "Chinese government" friendly website, feel free to post it.

Hahahahaha .. sorry about the previous "boo boo", I posted what I thought was the video and then found out that it was not ...

... I found another site with the news, and it is "friendly" ...

    http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/01/17/chicago-teen-beating-video_n_1210266.html

[Edited two hours later] ... extract from the page:

Police said the victim was treated for cuts, abrasions and bruises at Mercy Hospital and released, according to The Chicago Sun-Times.

They also said that the attackers stole $180 and sneakers from him, CBS Chicago says

No one has been arrested, The Associated Press reports.

A version of the video appeared on YouTube that included the names and addresses of the suspects, according to several media outlets, but on Tuesday morning it had been removed.

Agree with Kyle here...no way even knowing martial arts would help, tho i saw the video and if they are hitting and kicking like that i would throw some punches back. [br] They kick my ass anyway at least i go down fighting.

    Kyle I Agree.

David Findley,[br] [br] You cannot pretend everyone to have muscles and know martial arts, thats just stupid.[br] Everyone is different and have different aptitudes. Some kids are just no good with that shit.

Hahahahaha ... I think I just found out why guys such as Jon Gu is in China ...

To blame the victim, especially when you are not the victim, is quite common, regardless of geography, race or gender ... so?

I wont go that far as saying human are assholes, but many of us have been badly brainwashed, otherwise we wont get people like the "spit spammer" or PUAMOG or Dudu, just to name a few ... in the idealistic world, they dont exist, but our world is not ideal ...

I got my ass kicked a lot in middle school because I thought self-defense classes were going to make me tougher and more confident.

Only retarded yuppies would think a tough karate pose is going to help someone avoid a beating from seven people. When you're up against numbers, all it takes is one well-placed shove and you're on the ground. At that point, seven grandmothers could stomp you to death if they were of a mind to do so.

I haven't seen the video but I guarantee you that kid is one Mr. Miyagi montage away from a worse beating if he takes advice from fine upstanding citizens like David and Julie.

But others just try to be thugs (too much gangsta-shit in their brains), they are usually so spoiled by their absent parents, and just try to call the attention, feel that they belong to a group, or feel the kings of their neighbourhood for a while...

In this case, maybe they was looking for get an emotional high, acting like real thugs. Maybe for this reason they recorded it, to show others, how tough they are.... (of course, they are enough stupid to don´t realize that people don´t admire when a group beats up one helpless guy). They good thing for them, they already got the attention of their daddys and moms

In the end of the video, you can see how fast he can runs. And he saves his ass in this way.

If you have the luck of born nerd in a tough neighborhood, the first thing is: Cardio and speed, like if you must to survive in a post-apocalyptic zombie world.

Better for that guy train athletics, instead martial arts (although monkey style could works).

I've only understood Aussies to be "notoriously racist" toward Abos. A tendency toward racist humor and/or verbal abuse constitutes neither a necessary nor sufficient indicator of racism.

@Cheng, what you seem to be describing as "racism" is really more like prejudice or discrimination. Then again, as a social science geek, I tend to think the only racism worth complaining about is the institutionalized kind, i.e. the mission schools where religious authorities separated many aboriginal children from their parents. This is a form of genocide. FOBs certainly do get discriminated against, but does that mean are they victims of racism?

I'm not being judgmental about genocide here; America did the same and worse to its indigenous peoples earlier. More recently, Native Americans experienced "positive discrimination" in the form of massive casino revenues, which injected disposable income into previously poor communities and subsequently invited a brisk trade in narcotics. Pity that your abos have to settle for huffing gas.

Nonetheless, people who complain about them injuns getting a free ride through university, or about other affirmative action programs, are fucking racists. Calling it "positive discrimination" is only a little better than what Americans call "reverse racism." Indeed, rednecks think that providing benefits to minorities and taking any steps toward revoking white privilege constitutes an attack on the white race, as if "regular racism" is the natural order of things.

I know it is not your intention, but I don't like the direction you're taking the abo issue. But that's the trouble with popular discussions about race issues is that people want to boil racism down to its ideological essence and make it an argument about mere intentions rather than addressing the actual cause of racism (which I'm inclined to believe subordinates it to classism because I'm a dirty red).

...Anyway, why the fuck is a 17 year old carrying 180 dollars in cash on him while walking around alone in Chicago?

We all know US social security and welfare is absolute shit.

    ಠ_ಠ

It's far less comprehensive and therefore less effective than comparable European social welfare systems because people like Newt Gingrich have been sabotaging it for the last thirty fucking years.

SRSLY, I am really fucking tired of this argument that providing the barest essentials for living to keep the poorfucks from destroying themselves and their neighborhoods imposes substantial disincentives to personal success and thus destroy Western society. It's bullshit you tell children to make them work harder.

Those numerous niglets Scooter lived down the hall from do not suffer from a "lack of motivation" because of those flawed social welfare programs, either, but because of a pervasive hopelessness that they cannot escape their economic destiny. Because for every heartwarming tale of an underdog pulling himself up by his bootstraps a la that fucking overrated Will Smith flick, there are thousands still stuck in the ghetto with no way out.

Poor people turn to crime because it's a damn sight more rational than showing up to school every day and getting your ass kicked for being a nerd.

No. I wanna have a good cry about my childhood, too.

I was raised a latchkey kid, as after my mom's divorce from my dad and before her third marriage, she worked at a convenience store while she "put herself" through community college to study nursing. Yet I was dimly aware that my family enjoyed certain material advantages if only because my mother was also an unrepentant gold-digger. Still, mom grew up poor herself and tried very hard to imbue me and my brother with working class ethical principles, with mixed results. My brother has worked his ass off as a restaurant chef since he was old enough to handle a knife, while I ended up becoming the People's Champion of the Lumpen Proletariat.

No one in my immediate family has ever collected unemployment benefits, food stamps, welfare checks, or carried a "Bridge Card" (it's a Michigan thing, like food stamps), but nonetheless, I'd never look down at people who do, because I know that folks like me who come from dysfunctional (yet materially privileged) families are no less lazy and unmotivated than poor kids whose parents pissed away their welfare money.

I don't remember getting called a rich brat when I was getting bullied in school, though. I think they just called me a faggot.

"Poor people turn to crime because it's a damn sight more rational than showing up to school every day and getting your ass kicked for being a nerd."

Ehhhh. They might think it's more rational - but is it? A good education is probably the healthiest way to get out of a shitty economic situation.

Like think about all the dipshits back home who are changing oil and bagging groceries and shit - they (or their parents) didn't value education, and now they make $8 an hour and buy new rims for their truck while skipping their child support payments.

I really don't think it's that different in the African-American community - I'm not speaking from experience, but it sounds like urban blacks eschew education (it's for faggots, Dando) in favor of get-rich-quick plans (involving crime of some variety, perhaps?) and working menial jobs, if they can even find those.

It's just part of the subculture - their parents believe in and do these things, the musicians and other celebrities they look up to came from similar backgrounds, they just feel like it's what they're "supposed" to do. There is certainly an institutionalized component to it - the assumptions that educators, black or white, make about black students are problematic - but if they really wanted to bust out of the ghetto, they'd be parking their asses in school.

I have a hard time feeling bad for people who have access to public schooling and still manage to fuck up their lives. I went to a pretty crap school and turned out alright, what's their excuse?

I don't see a lot of ant colony kids hoisting themselves up by their bootstraps. Education isn't a cure-all for systemic inequalities.

Education funding in the U.S. is determined by property taxes. I started in a poor school district and moved twice to better districts through a schools of choice program, but that was only possible because I am a fashionably aloof loner and I live a charmed existence. For kids growing up in the projects, a sense of belonging and the feeling of security of being among peers with whom one grew up is not only a mere feeling, but a social reality. When you grow up in a rough neighborhood, you need other people to watch your back. That, mixed with a pervasive culture of anti-intellectualism, explains quite succinctly why black kids aren't as free to go against the grain.

Get-rich-quick schemes and crimes like prostitution and drug dealing are completely rational behaviors from a costs-benefits perspective. Not everyone pursues these endeavors rationally, but the decision to do so (if it can be called a decision at all--it's more like people incidentally violate the law to satisfy other goals and then rationalize criminal behavior post hoc) is wholly rational.

Or do you think that cops solve most crimes?

    They should've cooked meth.

As far as the ant colony kids go, that's apples and oranges - the American education/employment system might suck, but I think there are far greater chances for success based on one's own effort in the States than there are here. No one here is rewarded for effort - in the States, at least there's a token reward, like "you get to go to college now! If you can afford it. NYAH." Chinese kids are screwed from the get-go unless their family is at least moderately well-off, I'm pretty sure.

I buy that urban blacks are growing up in shitty circumstances and have to face realities that people in, say, northern rural Michigan don't have to face, but the schools are still there and they're still free. It isn't a cure-all and systemic inequalities still remain, no doubt.

But I'm not entirely convinced that it's rational, in any sense, to choose a life of crime over a childhood spent in school. Isn't that the choice they get to make? Their schools are definitely poorly equipped/maintained/staffed, but a high school diploma and reasonable standardized test scores are all you need to be approved for federal loans and get into a public university in the States, and I don't think it's necessarily impossible to achieve or obtain those things in a shitty school.

But then, maybe I don't know what a truly shitty school is. We only had one AP class? Our high school cheerleading coach doubled as an English teacher? I sure felt like it was shitty back then.

    "They should've cooked meth."

It's a life or meth decision.

dudes,,,i don't know if you heard but they got this 6 guys and 1 girl involved in the fight against this asian kid. Seems the Asian kid belongs to a 19 gang group the kick the shit out of 2 other kids, so this was a retaliation for something the other asian kid did. Now I'm not justifying what they did, but sure changes the perspective how I saw this case.
