Now that it's perpetually hot, I constantly see Chinese guys pulling up their shirts halfway to expose their bellies. I understand that it's about staying cool, but does it really do so much? Also, it seems that extremely fat guys like to do this more, perhaps because the shirt stays up easier, resting nicely atop that huge belly.
If you're really that hot, why not just take off your shirt completely? When they pull up their shirt halfway like that, it looks like they're so proud of their massive belly that they want to let everyone else enjoy its magnificence just the same. Is it that being fat in Asian culture is somehow a status symbol as well?
Just curious. Hope someone can help me understand this cultural thing better.
