I hope u guys don't take me wrong, it probably is a sensitive subject but I'm curious to understand better:
    - Why some (not few of them) Chinese women don't shave their armpits?

I saw beautiful women around who sometimes don't care about shave the armpit.
    - In China it's not a beauty or hygiene standard?
    - Chinese guys like women's armpits without shave?

Don't want to be offensive, it's a curiosity.

One point more, if it's not a beauty or hygiene standard why all women in advertisements have the armpit shaved?

Sheryl u have good points! There are not many shaving products here, sometimes we need to go in 3 o 5 different places to find out. My personal thought, women (Oriental, Western, etc) shouldn't be hairy. Not only due will turn guys off, but seems dirty and # negligent.

When I went out with my wife before (cannot remember exactly where though) I did see some form of wax stuff for sale ... you can find them in Beijing for sure, but with little demand, they are not as easy to find ... and then there is a price issue, as well as common sense (or education) ...

However, I know that beauty salons (maybe not all of them) offer wax and trim ... I do sometimes walk with my wife to those places, and I do read what they advertise ...

    Zhaohong, if it's a women's choice I respect!
But you really think girls should do exactly what guys do?

Different people, different ideas, different tastes
The most important is respect each one choices, I don't like even when little...it bother me, but I respect people who like it :)

Beauty is more of a culture thing. i guess, traditonally, Chinese didn't have similar aesthetic concept about hair of the body.
I don't like unshaved armpits. simply because most of us are educated by TV, magazine, posters and western culture and other modern-aesthics media, then we started to shave armpits, and we will take unshaved armpit as weird or sth..
but for some, it is not a problem since they don't have a similar aesthetic value.

actually I am more curious of the shaving issue of another part of the body. :)

    Yuki, totally agree!
Not only Chinese girls, but even us Western girls have a heavy influence from TV, magazines, etc.

About the other part, I also think is important to shave or trimming...there more than never for me it's related to hygiene

    Yuki Inés wrote:

Miss N. , I guess you have never been to a gym and take shower with Chinese girl..the majority of us don't and won't shave the hair of that part.
I asked many of my elder friends about that, they said it was because Chinese we traditionally believed that shaving of that part is not good, girls after shaving would become tiger-ghost or something. It is a superstition, of course. But at least it means shaving there is a taboo for some Chinese...And Chinese men dont like it since they believe girls like that have too much desires...囧
But as I know, some western feminism took that-part-unshaved as a resistence to male authority...such as the drama V-monolog said that.

Yuki if it's a cultural concept might bee tough to break, mainly in short term. Not sure about Chinese guys preferences, but Westerns don't like.

Once again, we have to respect each other :)

Just here to talk a little about the superstition part ...

Fashion items like bikini and Victoria's Secrets are not unknown (though maybe not well known) among Chinese population, and I am very sure that shaving or trimming of "that part" is nothing new anymore ...

However, the superstition that Yuki had mentioned, is still found among some Chinese, and the term is "white tiger" ... the old belief says that girl with no hair in the pubic area will bring bad luck to the husband ...

I might not be 100% correct, but this should be close ...

why don't you people just shave, its not that hard, pretty cheap too. and then you dont smell like shit when you sweat

It's cool with me that a girl shaves her armpits. But Beckam surprised the sh** out of me. Guess I am too redneck/Americanized.

Legs and armpits is a must. Now granted most Chinese girls don't even need to shave their legs, but others do. For the love of god please.

Saw this one Chinese lady who probably has never shaved her legs and the hair was like 3 inches long *bleh*

As for down below, shaved is nice. But trimmed is all you need. Guys too.
  • Albulena Imeri
Most of the Chinese/Asian chicks have light hair, very little hair on legs or arms. But there are the minorities. But I do find some hair under a girl's arm, kind of natural and sexy/attractive.

I go gym shower with a lot of dudes, all dudes, Chinese or non-Chinese should trim more, possibly. It's up to their ladies though.

I PERSONALLY prefer shaved amphits, and not-too-hairy/trimmed pubes.

HOWEVER, since cultural diversity across time and geography tells me that such a seemingly "universal" preference is not UNIVERSAL at all, then it is not so likely that it's a inborn preference of aesthetics of all people, maybe I'll feel not so good with girls who got unshaved amphits, or, more precisely, I'll feel better with those who shaved their amphits, but I'll never consider them "weird", "strange", "uneducated", etc.

btw, wowowow! sb. did go out with his WIFE? WTF ;)

Culture, but shaved armpits look so good. I can even kiss them. Actually shaved everywhere, not armpits only. They look so disgusting if not shaved and someone sweats during this summer. They start smelling.

I think just running an electric trimmer once a week over whatever hair you can reach makes a world of difference, aesthetically and hygenically. Shaving is irritating. Fuck that noise. Just hit that shit with an electric razor. Do it for whoever might be giving you head.

Same for dudes, too. Trimming your junk makes it look bigger, anyway.

Eh I have met a few girls who did not shave their pits and it did not bother me so much. I try to be accepting in areas like this. I would not want to make them feel bad or embarrassed, so I can keep it to myself. I personally prefer shaved pits and trimmed (not bald) pubic area. I can forgive a little arm pit hair though because I just tell myself that shaving the pits is just a beauty standard created by media anyway. I sometimes tend to think it is cute on a beautiful woman because it says, "Fuck you I will not shave my pits and I will still be beautiful!" However, i do not like a mouth full of pubes during oral.... 70's style muffs are also sort of a turnoff, but a little vihawk is cute and rather sexy @_@

I do not expect anyone to change themselves simply to satisfy me, but it can be a mutual decision if it comes down to it.

Land Mammals have hair and we certainly belong to that group, so natural can be accepted with a little introspection.

Thats funny that humans have survived fine with pubic hair for hundreds and thousands of years and now that we wear cloths and as a result of having our junk smashed up against our bodies we sweat and it causes a health hazard to our genitals.... Oh shit. I say keep the hair and do away with the (modern restrictive) cloths.... Its more breezy that way anyways.

It is funny and sometimes disturbing to me how some guys like to have girls shave their pubes bald like a little girl. I wonder why that is. A result of pornography being drilled into the brain and yet another result of mass media created beauty standards? Do Ya think?
  • Joakim Berg Solum
Nah. It just feels better. You know how girls don't like kissing bearded guys sometimes? I don't like uh... kissing bearded girls either.

I do reciprocate as well and it's usually appreciated. Double-edged razor FTW!

I agree that armpits shaving is quite a beauty or hygiene standard ! I dont know any photographer that would deliver a photo to an advertizer with a model not shaved under the arms ! Even only trimming would not be accepted :-)

Well I guess that is just a limitation of the modeling industry.... Where does it say that shaving actually does anything for health? So many people that do not shave in this world, so does that mean that only a handful of western countries are healthy? Is everyone else less civilized? We create the standards in our own minds through our media and what we perceive to be acceptable for mass consumption. Tell the mass media and mainstream society to keep their ideals off of our bodies and out of our minds.

I am a hairy guy. I am happy I do not have back hair, but if I did I would embrace it. Why must women adhere to the standard we set for them if it really has no purpose? If someone keeps themselves clean there should be no problem.

Do you think that a human must shave to be beautiful? That just does not seem right. They should change something about their natural self in order to be beautiful in a natural world? Or is it even a natural world at all? Who started this standard anyway? I bet you guys know that answer to that question.

I also have my preferences with hair and such, but I just like to argue the principles of the practice. Asking ourselves why we do something and why we think a certain way is a good way to realize that we humans are full of shit most of the time with our stupid ideas we perceive to be correct.

Personally arm-pit hair isn't a huge issue but it can be a deal-breaker if I'm on the fence about a girl. I don't think it's such a problem for guys that they'd reject an otherwise perfect and beautiful women just because she didn't shave, but it'd definitely tip the scales if you were weighing up the pros and cons of dating a woman.

Agreed it's primarily a media thing...though I'd also say that I personally associate arm-pit hair with sweat and I think seeing a woman with hair under there would significantly low my expectations of her having a nice smell. (and smell and even the idea of smell is pretty important).

Definitely agree with the guys about preferring going down on a girl that doesn't look like a 70s porn star. My first ever experience of oral traumatised me for several years after going down on a girl with enough hair down there to make me gag(and not in a good way!)
  • Simen Stensvoll
i like to shave, expecially in summer
it is quite unpleasant to see gilrs' arm-pit hair
but a trimmed pubic is much better than a bald one, i think
