"Facebook makes SHIT loads, I'm not joking, SHIT SHIT loads through advertising and selling app space to third party developers"
I don't have enough time to do a good search, but here's an article which could disclose some information about facebook current financial situation.
Some quotations from this article:
"The social networking site, while popular with its exploding user base, has struggled to turn a profit.
But Zuckerberg said the company became profitable last quarter, beating its goal of getting out of the red by the end of 2010."
Now we can see Facebook, which was founded in February, 2004, finally started to make some money from the seconed quarter of 2009.
Facebook could probably make loads loads of money, but not for the time being, maybe in the near future if they could keep creative and no other innovative social websites catch on.
Now just back to China, cause this website's name is "we live in Beijing".
Chinese website users are very different compared to other countries. They could download movies, music, books from website totally for free ( mainly because the government is so weak against piracy) So they just get used to pay nothing when they are enjoying
service from websites.
Some Chinese websites have been working for several years and accumulated hundreds millions users, but as long as they began to charge users'money, they all walked away overnight.
Ok, if it's not possible to charge users'money, then the only way left is from advertisement. jobs, properties, events, there's many free Chinese websites to offer same service, why would they pay the money here? plus how much they could afford to pay? Many
events are just events, they don't make money by themselves; Clubs and Bars could possibly share their revenue with you. But most of them are also struggling because of fierce competition, you can't expect too much from them.
You need to pay for the servers, the office rent, the maintainance, the salary, and that's not a small amount.
How to make balance? How to cover the cost?
It's not impossible to generate profit; it's just very hard.
I've said too much about this sensitive issue. Hope you Norwegian guys don't hate me. I could be wrong. I could be completely wrong. And I hope you will prove me wrong using your creativity and talent one day!
