I've never been to somewhere else but Beijing and Brisbane. The moon in brisbane is definitely bigger here. it probably because brisbane is closer to the equator? therefore, its closer to the moon??! Not sure about that as i never learn any astronomy from school.......

But that's just based on my literal understanding. In terms of the implication of 外国的月亮是否特别圆,i think it is for most of chinese people.....and it really is pathetic!

Which part of Brisbane did you stay? Toowong? St Lucia? West End? or Sunnybank, Runcorn, Eight Miles Plain? I was in Ashgrove for two years of high school, and then on campus at St Lucia for 4+ years ... but that was in the 80's. Then I was living in Sydney from 1994, for about 12 years.

Dont really know about that one. But there r some new restaurants, like, "king of kings", and "黄金满楼"..........btw, do we hav them in beijing as well??? coz i never had Yum-cha in Beijing at all.........

Funny to say, everytime me and my friends went to King of Kings, its always hilarious to see all the different food ordered by chinese and australian. Chinese normally go with some steamed dim sum, like prawn dumplings and seafood dumplings while their Australian counterparts have all these more formal food, mostly deep-fried, like sweet n sour pork, Shanghai style chicken which is basically just sweet n sour chicken...............I said to my friends that " r those things that they really should order here?" and they said: "o,  they just go sweet n sour everywhere"......

"King of Kings" is still there? Hahaha, that surely brings back lots of memories ...

There are many Cantonese "yum cha" places around Beijing, mostly with moderate prices ...

Yes, for some reason, Australian natives tend to order deep fried, sweet n sour and fried rice most of the times, but once in a while, you will meet some brave souls might have been overseas (Hong Kong or China) or have lots of Chinese friends, and would order something like steamed fish, lobsters, abalone etc ..

USA, july.  the moon looked bigger . i know many chinese say its 媚外 to say moon bigger or more round,  but im objective to say it, at least  LOOKED bigger!

i think it just because of the cleaner air condition, the moon looks bigger because lack of light refraction from the clean air condition.

Actually, there is a simple scientific reason why the moon "looks" bigger in certain parts of the world, and it is simply that because it is closer to that region ...

The moon, as we know, rotates around Earth in a fixed orbit (or at least not a random orbit), so it will be closer to the "belt region" on the earth surface and hence look bigger, whereas if one is far away from this "belt region", the moon is further away and hence look smaller...

Moon in scotland does not look bigger but lower. sometimes you feel you can catch it. I am pretty sure the reason is the higher latitude.

Too lazy to start a new thread for an old topic ... so I re-cycled this one of mine ...

Just to state that ... even if the "moon" might be "better" outside, it does not mean that you have to go, and here is a small article about what some parents might do, when they dont think ...

Betting on the US could backfire on greedy parents

I think the moon in Australia is definitely bigger then in China! Though this is mainly because of the poluted clouds surrounding China's skies.

Also, the sun is alot hotter in Australia (hence the number one country for skin cancer), this would probably mean the moon is closer to Australia then it is to China too.

    Not sure about other countries.
