I had been kind of hyper in the forum over the last few days ... and this idea hit me really hard this morning ... how about if we hold a beauty contest on this site?

We are not going to do any swimsuit parade on catwalk (though it will be nice), or Q&A such as "what is the most important thing" and then someone said "world peace" ... it would just be a simple voting system based on photos and descriptions, and how well you know that girl.

I think we could set a deadline for nomination, and a deadline for vote. Each "member" on this site will get to vote only once, on each category! I will start with these categories: "sporty girl", "professional lady", "most imaginative" ...

I dont suppose we will have much about prizes, it will just be fun and honor etc ... Q: Is it difficult to do?

    Would be cool !

But I think that some profiles are totally fake here.

But yeah, a simple voting system like some websites such as HotorNot.com etc... It would be great !

Don't forget to add a man category ;)

    +1

Hahaha ... it was just an idea ... and if the WLIB team does not agree, it will still just be an idea ... but thanks for the support.

Well, as far as "honesty" is concerned, we will just need to believe that most people on this site are trustworthy souls, and that there will not be too many of us "grade A, middle-aged degenerate who likes to stir up trouble on our site"... hahaha, right?

If this rolls ... I think we need more than 3 categories ... suggestion?

how do we do that? beauty contest only for girls? i think it'd be fun. we should talk about the standard tho. whats the concept of beauty you are talking about?

we should totally design our own outfit for the imaginitive categories. too bad i gave away all of those i can cut and destory!

Hahaha Sheryl ... I will consider your WTF to be an objection? By the way, did you delete my post in your thread earlier about books?

Anyway, like I had said, this is just for fun, so I dont think real name is necessary ... in my case, I only remember the "WLIB names" of the girls, once we throw in real names, it gets too complicated, and I am sure, the WLIB team could not be bothered.

Not sure where you came up with the idea of credit card ...

The "real photo" idea is the really interesting part ... while I was chewing on a piece of something during lunch, I thought about this, but if we are going to do this for fun, we can relax a little about this ...

Again, like I had said, this is just an idea ... and we are just throwing in idea as it goes, but if this proves to be too complicated or too difficult for the WLIB team, at least we had fun talking about it, right?

It's not about the hottiest, it's a BEAUTY contest. There's a HUGE difference. But feel free to vote for the most disgusting male.

I don't think a credit card verification would be good. Maybe that it's common in China (I saw that for... Video games ?), but in European countries it would be a blasphem :)

Plus, Bloc. is situated in Norway.

And I don't think a lot of people would give their credit card number just for a contest. Even tought they do it, they still can give fake pictures lol... :/ Fake will always a part of WLIB >___<.

But great idea, would love to see that here, as I said.

WLIB is not a website only for guys, so posting FHM (For Him Magazine) like content will not happen. A contest based on for instance fashion for both genders might work though =)

About Q&A: We have been talking about doing member interviews on our site, like a "Member Of The Week" kinda thing. Any opinions on that? =)

Aurélien ... thanks again for the support ... Sheryl probably forgot for a moment that this is, afterall, a web site, not really a bunch of people all living in Beijing ... or UK or USA etc ...

    Kent,

    (1) no one can stop people from adding more photos (no matter how provocative and revealing they might be) once we kick start this beauty contest, but since you mentioned FHM, I dont think you can disagree that, some of the photos on this site (fake or otherwise) are even "better" than FHM, and let's not name anyone :)

    (2) Being a fairly guy, or a middle-aged degenerate who likes to stir up trouble, you can appreciate that my first instinct was biased towards the other gender ... we can of course have a contest for the guys too (just thinking about it make me want to throw up) ...

... and I did not say that the girls cannot vote for girls, and I know a few who would love to, but imagine the idea of guys voting for guys ... (ok, I must go to toilet now)

    ... and I am back

    (3) Fashion contest huh? I dont think that would be a fair contest ... I am not a fashion expert or anything, but to me, fashion is not just the clothes, it is about the style and the aroma (spelt wrong?), and it is very subjective ... if it is done by voting, with most of us being non professional in the fashion world, the result would still remain a popularity contest, and hence no point ... or if it is judged by a few people, not by voting, the fashion sense of these few might also be biased towards people who can afford nice expensive clothes

    (4) Unless I have missed anything, but wouldn't this "member of the week" thing just be a popularity contest, similar to the idea of "beauty contest" anyway? Hope I have not mistaken, but you said:

We have been talking about doing member interviews on our site, like a "Member Of The Week" kinda thing

... that sounds to me, the result (or prelim selection) of this contest will be based on the interviews, which would of course be conducted by a few people! Even if there is voting involved, the selected few might not necessarily be known by the majority of WLIB world (just a few thousand words about that person is not enough)

    (5) I agree that the "beauty contest" is only skin deep, and this idea of "Member of the week" is more in-depth, however, my primary objective is just to have fun, and involve a lot of people on WLIB, and involve minimal work ...

In conclusion, considering many things that can be compared, judged, and voted ... the "face" (and the body of course) would perhaps be the easiest for WLIB to deal with, even if the photos are fake ...

I can go on ... but I need to go to office ... more later!

    1. Our users are free to upload every photo they want to as long as it´s not violating our terms of service. But if the WLIB team start to promote editorial content aimed exlusivly to the guys on our site - this will cause negative reactions from girls + it will damage our reputation.

    2. It wouldnt be fair giving the guys something to look at without giving the girls something to look at. Btw, keep in mind that there are gay guys (and girls) using our site, so if you could spare us the anti-gay comments, that would be appreciated.

    3. Not necessarely fashion -that was just my example. It could be anything.

    4. Member of the week should not be a contest. It´s simply the editorial picks of the most interesting newcomers. For instance - if we stumble upon a newcomer who are doing something out of the ordinary in beijing, they would most likely be picked.

    5. If there´s a model / fashion event in beijing, we might send a photographer to cover the event. But we will not point out the most beautiful girls on our site. If we did that, these girls would be bombarded with sleazy messages from guys, giving them a bad experience of our site. The result of this is that these girls will tell their friends that our site is full of perverts, and they will all stop using the site.
