Trying to get an idea of which bands you guys love here in China??

I loved Beyond, but right now I'm having a hard time finding any other really great rock bands  out here!

    So let me know!

none, i was seeking local indie bands but failed, hope one day bands like arade fire or death cab for cuttie pop up in my country. chinese bands get used to imitating their western metal counterparts, frankly, rock to our bands  is like christianity thing to china masses, it's like a tree without root, we know what it is like but we do not know exactly how to make it in a manner  it should be, so chinese rock sucks.

Chinese rock doesn't suck, dude. The music coming out of Beijing is among the most progressive and diverse on the planet. Bands like Carsick Cars, Snapline, Lonely China Day and P.K. 14 are beginning to receive global recognition. And it's not limited to Beijing, either. Check out AV Okubo (Wuhan), 24 Hours (Xi'an), Rustic (Hebei) and Overdose (Nanjing).

really? it might be true i paid rare attention to china's underground music, the only rocker i am familiar with is xie tian xiao, but i suppose he is different since he is doing sort of mainstrem music, Beijing is indeed the rock cradle of china, there were once over 1000 bands out there in around 1990s but i did not expect any progressive thing among them, those clumsy heavy metal chicks in the past decade destroyed my zest on them but i'll the said bands you guys named

@于欢: Cool! This month, I recommend checking out P.K. 14, Hedgehog, The Molds, SUBS, The Scoff, 24 Hours and Demerit. Just take a look at the event listings on the front page of our site. Most of their MySpace pages are linked, as well.

Does Chinese include Hong Kong? I do like Beyond (still there, but with only three people, it is not quite the same) and Blue Jeans (they are now doing background producing stuff)

Most underground Chinese bands aren't signed. Even the ones who are still face the lack of a workable business model in China to profit from their records.

All of those bands are great. Hot & Cold will play this Friday at D-22.

Pete: I don't get to Beijing till August! Otherwise I would be all over it!
