FAQs Series: About teaching English in China

Posted by Nations Abroad Consulting LTD on 17. Sep 2013

Q: How will I know what age I can teach better?
A: Since both kindergartens and English teachers vary in style, age, and experience, we will take you to do a 10-15 minute demo class before you begin teaching. This demo class helps us to decide where you will fit in best as an English teacher.

Q:Is the demo a requirement?
A: In our experience, all schools and training centers will ask interviewing teachers to do a demo class for about 10-15 minutes. They will be interested to see certain aspects of teaching such as; confidence, grasp of content of the lesson, class presence, teacher's reaction to indiscipline amongst the students, teaching style. Our advice: have a standard demo "pre-prepared" that you can customize at a moment's notice for kids and adult-age students. Pop interviews have been known to happen.

Q: I have never done a demo before, what do I do?
A: First of all Nations Abroad has staff who have teaching experience in China so besides formal training they will help you prepare for your demo and give you advice and tips on how to do a demo for different ages. Having been in this industry a while we know what is expected of any teacher and we can advise accordingly.
