Yeah, you, Beijing resident in front of the computer.
What are you doing this Saturday night? Got anything planned? You’re into hip hop, aren’t you?
We thought so.
How about checking out a live gig by Pete Rock?
Why not, right? I mean, this guy is a living legend in the hip hop universe.
Pete Rock, American producer extraordinaire, has pretty much worked with anyone who is anyone in the, ahem, intellectual hip hop scene -- the Roots, the Notorious B.I.G., A Tribe Called Quest, Gang Starr, Talib Kweli, Common, Wu-Tang Clan… the list is endless.
As a result of his distinctive funk-and-jazz-fueled sample-heavy beats, he’s influenced some of the best producers since the late-1990s, from Kanye West to the late, great J. Dilla.
We’d like to give away two pairs of tickets to two different users.
Just tell us the name of any Pete Rock-produced track in the comments section below.
We’ll select TWO USERS at random and announce them by Friday night in the space below. You’ll find your name, plus one, on the guestlist and be good to go.
Got it? Good.
And if you don’t win, you should go check out the show anyway. It’s not often that a living hip hop legend makes a pit stop in the Middle Kingdom.
Pete Rock, Sat, Feb 26 at Yugong Yishan. Tickets are 100 RMB at the door, 70 RMB pre-sale. 9pm.
