BEIJING, Jan 2 - While the WLIB team missed the ball on offering a Happy 2010 greeting to the community (we blame travel, too much toxic substances and a sincere desire to limit your Inbox intake of spurious holiday greetings) our buddy DJ Wordy emailed us earlier with a New Year's greeting and gift for you guys:
Whaddup Whadddup WLIB:
Happy New Year 2010 to everyone at WeLiveinBeijing
This is DJ Wordy, 3 times China DMC Champion. I play everything from hip hop to electro, and anything with dope bass with funky beats.
Here is the mix I just finished (December 2009) and released on Jan 1. This is a New Year's gift for all the music lovers: some real hip hop, some real funky beats.
Thanks for reminding us, Wordy. We would have embedded the file right here in the article, but it's too big for our measly software to handle. You can listen to it here.
Although we've entered a new decade, the 57-minute mixtape, titled "I Like That Raw Sh*t," acts as a nice wrap-up of some of the Aughts best hip hop production work, containing beats and ciphers from some of the decade's most storied artists, ranging from intellectual NYC hip hop (Mos Def, De La Soul, Q Tip) to classic soul bangers (Freddie Scott, the Meters).
And from those of us here at the WLIB team, er, Happy 2010! We have some exciting things planned for the new decade, and can't wait to roll them out.
Be safe out there!
