A night of moderately enjoyable music provided by some of this city's most indistinguishable bands. Expect emo from the headliners, with support from Rolling Rolling, Candy Monster and Steely Heart, emitting Britpop, rock-flavored New Wave and post-punk, respectively.

南无 EP RELEASE PARTY: Great news for fans of the cerebral local septet who combine searing guitar riffs, bluesy breakdowns and ethereal female vocals with traditional Chinese instrumentation and lyricism: their first EP, "南无文艺宣传队," is now available in both regular and limited special editions. Indie pop sextet Fruit Salad and shoegaze act Mr. Graceless, both of whom are friends of the band, will offer support at this release party.

Hanggai: Since the release of their debut LP Introducing Hanggai last year, this Beijing-based sextet has received international attention -- from Pitchfork to the Guardian -- for their Mongolian revivalist folk anthems characterized by traditional instrumentation and throat singing.

J.ROCC: Founder of the Beat Junkies crew (Stones Throw) lands in Beijing after his initial gig in early-June was abruptly postponed due to swine flu ballyhoo. Since early 1990s, he transformed hip hop with his stellar turntable skills, breathing life into the nascent instrumental hip-hop genre. Known for flawless transitions, scratching ability and eye for composition, he's bound to school both local hip-hop heads and expat hipsters alike in the art of groove. Section 6, DJ Jamming, MC Webber, Meiwenti and visual artist Hao Bu Hao will support.

Beijing Free Improvisation Alliance: Monthly collaborative musical workshop with a focus on improvisation and experimentation. Initiated and organized by saxophonist and composer Li Tieqiao, this month's session features Unni Lovlid and Ingar Hunskaar, the Norwegian singer and electronic producer, respectively, as well as handful of local experimental musicians.
