CROISEMENTS FESTIVAL: As part of the French Urban Culture series, drum n' bass/dub act High Tone lands in Beijing. With over a decade of experience under their belts, the quintet is considered to be one of the biggest players in the French Dub scene, citing influences ranging from 1970s Jamaican dub, ambient and jungle. Xiamen-based DJ Dave Situ, whose blend of abstract samples and breaks is often compared to Prefuse 73, is slated to support. Pre-sale tickets are available at the CCF, Yugong Yishan or clubzone.cn. Visit the organizer's page for comprehensive info on the festival, which also includes contemporary urban art installations and performances in Chengdu and Shenzhen in addition to Beijing.
Yugong Yishan, 130/80 RMB (pre-sale/door)

THURS, MAY 7

Fangzui Xiangfa (犯罪想法): Local quartet excels at emitting short micro bursts of hardcore punk paired with empowering lyrics. Overdose, Hutong Fist and Cerebral Concussion (脑震荡) will round out the bill.
D-22, 8pm, 30/20 RMB (students)

Nan Wu (南无): This local sextet flawlessly bridges the space between ultra-traditional Chinese folk and mainstream rock and roll via their emotionally-rattling, powerful live performances. Although their appearances continually draw loyal crowds from within the local student community, they are, without a doubt, one of Beijing's most underrated live acts and deserve your attention. Rolling Rolling, 薇乐队 and 秦玄 will support.
MAO Live House, 9pm, 40 RMB

French Electro Night: Mechanic Motion (Walter Kane, Robert Paulson and Dr. Geo) to premier their first DJ/live music set; minimal dance with an electro touch, French-style.

Taste of LA: A foursome of Playboy bunnies (Sasha Singleton, Thai Marie Cali, Amber Scott and Liza Kaye) gives Beijing a crash course in Gogo dancing, Los Angeles-style, with resident DJ Keza manning the decks. For all the basement dwelling anti-Romeos who bombard the females on our site with constant "hey baby" messages, try it with these chicks and see what happens.
Bling, 9pm, 50 RMB

Dirty Irish Bastard: The constantly-evolving Rustic, Oi! Bomber and abrasive street punks Gum Bleed will support the "German Irish folk act."
D-22, 10pm, 60/40 RMB

Buyi: Enduring circuit staples blend traditional Ningxia tunes with modern rock.
Jiangjinjiu, 9:30pm, free

AFTER SCHOOL PARTY: Caffe-In, PB33, The Ghost Spardac, Surprise and Lucky Monkey -- the popular squeaky-clean quintet who melds mainstream, radio-friendly pop with punk -- to issue the sunny, optimistic and happy-go-lucky soundtrack to your Friday night. Wear stockings to get a "pleasant surprise upon entry."

2 Kolegas, 3-6pm (free), 40 RMB after 6pm

Taste of LA: The hottie invasion continues.
Bling, 9pm, 50 RMB

Reptile & Retard: Danish electro-grunge act whose live set is said to channel "Jim Morrison stuck in a k-hole with Justice." Let's hope their performance is better than their incredibly lame name. DJs Ozone, @llen and Leo will support.
The Boat, 9pm, 80 RMB (includes open bar from 10pm-1am)

CLUB OBIWAN 2nd BIRTHDAY: Everyone's favorite three-tiered lakeside hangout turns two. Expect sounds from the Meiwenti, Funk*Fever, Beijing Calling and 604 crews. If the free BBQ from 8pm onwards isn't a sweet enough deal, they'll be slinging FREE BEER between 9-11pm on the first floor.
Club Obiwan, 8pm, free

Sweet Snacks: This international pop trio (UK, USA, France) assembles densely-layered, er, goofy disco-funk? Think The Go! Team meets Wesley Willis. Or if Girl Talk's Gregg Gillis booked studio time with Dusty Springfield. The truly bizarre band's musical and lyrical themes are said to range from cosmonauts to ping pong champions, and if the content on their MySpace page is accurate, they seem to be so excited about this gig, the self-proclaimed "very special group of people" have written and recorded an EP (Sweet Snacks Going to CHINA!) about their upcoming trip to the Middle Kingdom. Candy Monster and Bigger Bang! will support.
D-22, 10pm, 50/40 RMB (students)

Star Live, 8:30pm, 260/120/100 RMB (VIP/door/advance)

HAPPY ENDING: Donald Summer, Ludo V and Patrick Yu are on deck.
White Rabbit, 11pm, 50 RMB after 1am (Happy Ending not included in cover)

D-22, 9pm, 30/20 RMB (students)

Purple Haze Bistro, 8pm, free

Oliver: The Britpop quartet provides the soundtrack -- choked with squalling guitars and supercilious snarls -- for the farewell party for a team of bicyclists set to embark on the quinta-continental Electric Bicycle World Tour: a project that aims "to demonstrate and prompt the use of alternative transport options that have less negative affect on our planet." Haoyun Beijing and DJs Oscar and Carlo will support.
Yugong Yishan, free, 9pm
