Posted by University of Chicago Center in Beijing on 1. Mar 2012

Professor Eswar Prasad, Tolani Senior Professor of Trade Policy at Cornell University, former head of the IMF’s China division and its Financial Studies Division, received his PHD in Economics from the University of Chicago. On a Tuesday evening, approximately 200 visitors packed the Center’s event space to hear him discuss the RMB’s Role in the Global Monetary System and the release of a Chinese version of his new book, Emerging Markets: Resilience and Growth Amid Global Turmoil, which is important reading for anyone trying to anticipate the future growth track (and risks) of EMEs or contemplating business opportunities in these economies. He spoke for 35 minutes and answered questions for a similar period afterwards.

Professor Prasad has testified before the Senate Finance Committee, the House of Representatives Committee on Financial Services and the U.S.-China Economic and Security Review Commission, and his research on China has been cited in the U.S. Congressional Record.
